Sacred Curry Images

Uh...yeah...accidentally deleted my description there. Oops.<br />Anyway...<br />I need to practice facial expressions, and I need to practice digital paini I mean painting. So I had a brilliant idea: Practice facial expressions in Photoshop. Let's just ignore all the obvious flaws with that idea and get on with the meat of the story, shall we.<br />After about fifteen minutes of random doodling...this happened. Or, started to happen. It took another hour or so after that for the process to finish. I didn't do a gestural, which is why she randomly cuts off there.<br />As I was shading the eyeballs, I realized that I was basically doing shading like I do in Inkscape, only drawing the areas I want to shade with a tablet is so much easier and faster than painstakingly assigning each vector point and carefully teasing out each edge to just the right curve. Maybe I should remember this.<br />Maybe I should actually paint when I need to practice painting. Oops.<br /><br />Also, I didn't use anywhere near as many layers as I did before. I remember I would spend so long just digging through piles of layers looking for the right one, even with detailed naming. This only has four layers, the background, and an invisible sketch layer. Mmm.<br /><br />Edit: changed the background, because it bugged me.

Done entirely in Photoshop. That's a first for an actual painting.<br /><br />...anyway, enjoy my ugly digital painting. Bleh.

By the way, X11 crashed twice while I was making this, but both times I had saved fairly recently, so it wasn't an issue. Total time was at least four hours--Probably more like five. I seriously do not know how I managed to spend that much time on something so utterly abysmal.

Incidentally, Okayasu-sensei forbade me from including any mention of aliens or thievery in the writing section of my midterm. 厳しい先生に絶望した！（嘘）

As some people suggested, I tried doing the shading with gradients--It didn't work too well. I think, rather than trying to go through and change all the appropriate shadows to gradients, I'm just going to leave it as-is, and keep that in mind for the next picture. Though, as you can see, I did leave a couple of shadows as gradients.
Anyway, I gave the broomstick a broom, and changed her hat and dress color to dark grey, rather than blue--I think it looks much better, because now you can actually see the shadows."> So... Anyway... Not much to say here. It's late and I'm tired. I have a Japanese midterm in one week exactly, and a bunch of composition homework due in two days which I have barely started. Also, a bunch of music theory homework due the same day, but that won't be too hard--It's just identifying variations.

This is another one that I did completely in Inkscape, preliminary sketch and all. As such, I'm worried that there are anatomical mistakes (Aside from the lack of legs)--Anyone see any?

マーカーは高いから、私はコンピューターで着色彩色するのを試した。私は今までコンピューターで書くのが嫌いだったけど、今度は楽しかった。でも、まだマーカーより遅い。この絵の着色彩色するのは四日位かかりました。<br /><br />So, due to the high cost of markers, I decided to give digital shading a try, even though I have never been able to draw on the computer.<br />It was actually pretty fun, though it took forever (Four days. I've never taken that long to color a picture before), and I'm sure there are a whole bunch of mistakes in there, seeing as I find Painter's interface rather confusing (What the heck does that bleed counter do, anyway? Oh, and I managed to delete the high-res multi-layered RIFF file when I was saving it. Oops). And I didn't even bother to add texture.<br />Also, I'm sure this is the most <i>thoroughly unconvincing</i> Kung Fu stance any of you have ever seen before. Though, I do feel rather proud of the foreshortening on her hands there.<br />Incidentally, the wrinkling on her skirt is terribly messed up--I had it falling the wrong way to start with, and I managed to fix that, but I realized, last night, that it shouldn't have vertical creases, it should have tension creases coming out from her kneecap. Oh well, I guess I learned something.<br /><br />So, what do people think of this? Does it look like I'm on the right track? Does it look fantastically better than my marker stuff? Does it look abysmally bad? Is the Kung Fu stance so <i>thoroughly unconvincing</i> that you can't even form an opinion on the shading? Is anyone actually reading this description?<br /><br />Anyway, seeing as I seem to have stopped playing as Patchouli in favor of Chuugoku, I decided to draw her. That was on Friday. This picture is the result.<br />The problem with playing as Chuugoku is that she's not available in story mode, so no matter how good I get with her, I'll never be able to unlock anything. Haha.<br /><br />Actually, as far as this picture taking forever is concerned, it couldn't have helped that I had barely any free time on Sunday (I had a violin lesson in the morning, and then went to a concert in the afternoon (Which was very good, except for that awful neoclassical piece), and then would have gone to dinner at a friend's house, but my cold had progressed far enough that I stayed home) and was in bed sick all day on Monday.<br />And today, I must do my best to make it to Japanese class in the evening. I've made it through two semesters without missing a single class... Let's see if I can make the third.<br />Actually, I <i>feel</i> pretty good, it's just that I have this uncontrollable hacking cough, which would probably be disruptive. I guess I'll just have to ditch it within the next six hours.<br /><br />Also, the more I listen to the Innocence and Avalon soundtracks, the more I am convinced that Kawai Kenji is awesomeness in a bottle (Incidentally, I noticed the other day that, near the end of the Nine Sisters track, you can hear a helicopter in the background. Haha). I think I need to make myself one of those percussion instruments that he likes so much--The bunch of metal rods set in a block of wood.<br />And the assignment for composition class this week is to do a percussion piece. If I can put one of those things together, and am willing to lug a block of wood and a whole bunch of metal rods around in my back all day, I could do it one that... Fun times.<br /><br />Hong Meilin belongs to ZUN.

Incidentally, what are the changes implemented in v1.11? I haven't noticed anything different, but I assume it's the update that lets you play as Chuugoku? I didn't bother to read the little thingy on TasoFro's website, so...

Also, the current height for the description box in Inkwash's image upload system is five lines. Given the average length of my descriptions, this is thoroughly inadequate, and so Yuuei has promised to increase the size when he gets back from his Intensive Chinese class.
He also fixed the vanishing tag error (Or at least, we think he did). I guess I'm about to find out, aren't I?

Also, has anyone else around here been keeping up with Scarygoround? I don't want to spoil anything, but must say I find it amusing that all the girls Ryan gets along with are either dead or pretending to be dead.
Or possibly both, in the figurative sense.

She is ill-tempered, uses long words, orders her maid around, has purple hair, is a magician, lives in a badly-lit room, reads all the time, and hits people over the head with books. Clearly, she is Ienzo's cousin. <sub>Also, her parents were hippies, apparently.</sub><br /><br />Anyway, I found, last night, that, in Immaterial and Missing Power, although she is very weak at close range, if you know how, you can keep your opponent bouncing up and down taking heavy damage on the opposite side of the arena.<br />And if you're <i>really</i> good, you can keep them at 0 Power. This makes fighting another Patchouli rather funny, in a sad sort of way.<br /><br />Also, Yuuei has now <i>theoretically</i> fixed the line break madness going on here. Thus, it is my duty to bash his system once more, and see what breaks this time.<br /><br />Anyway, I think I need a darker purple marker, like maybe BV10 or something. Right now, all I have in that hue is Mauve Shadow (BV00), and, although her hair looks pretty good (In my opinion), it lacks the depth of color that I would like to be seeing. Also, her hands are about as seriously screwed up as they could possibly be without be stuck on backwards.<br />...However, mystical symbols done in freehand silver ink pen == a new kind of awesome. Despite immersing myself in (Undoubtedly toxic) fumes and giving myself a splitting headache, which I still have now, forty-five minutes later, I had a lot of fun doing that background.<br />Incidentally, the picture still stinks of ink pen. I think I will put it in the bottom of my Goliat, so the thing will stop smelling like Ikea glue and start smelling like marker.<br /><br />Also, in this picture and the last one, I started using some new scanner settings--96 DPI, 24-bit color, crop the scan area to the intended size of the picture, and then raise the contrast by 50% in The GIMP. I like how it looks, but what do you folks think?<br /><br />In addition to which, I have upgraded Immaterial and Missing Power to v1.11, and did stuff with music .dat files, and now the music plays some of the time, but not always (Which was exactly what I expected. Excellent). Unfortunately, it still pops up a little error every time I start a game about how it can't write the temporary files, which means that I have to switch to Windows and close the error message before frantically trying to switch back to Immaterial and Missing Power before my opponent starts whacking me, and if I try to save a replay, it pops up a little
